Gujarat’s share in pharma exports is almost a quarter: Smriti Irani
Ahmedabad. Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani has appreciated the contribution of Gujarat in the pharma sector. At the same time, he said on that Gujarat’s share in India’s exports of $ 24 million is about 25 percent. Smriti Irani inaugurated the National Convention to Promote Empowerment in Pharma and Healthcare Industry here. Irani also launched a report on Future Impact on Pharma and Healthcare with Diversity and Inclusiveness: Vision 2030.
Extending her best wishes on the state’s foundation day, Irani highlighted Gujarat’s contribution to the pharma sector and said the state accounts for about 25 per cent of the USD 24 million exports received by India. She expressed concern over the lack of opportunities for women in the pharma and healthcare sectors and expressed hope that the conference would lead to dialogue and discussion towards inclusion of more women in these sectors.
Convenor of the conference Deepa Sharma said that the focus of the conference was on empowering women entrepreneurship and participation in healthcare and pharma, and creating dialogue and action. “With the aim of contributing to the national agenda of celebrating the Amrit Mahotsav of Azadi, we hope that the conference will play an important role in promoting the entrepreneurial spirit,” he added.
Dr. Viranchi Shah, National President, Indian Drug Manufacturers Association said that “Business is in the blood of every Gujarati and with the emphasis on strong participation to women given by the Minister, I am sure there will be more participation of women entrepreneurs and professionals.” The deliberations and outcome of this conference will help stakeholders to see how to further strengthen diversity and inclusivity in the industry.” The conference emphasized the importance of diversity and inclusivity in these sectors and helped bring more women into the mainstream through the industry.
